Looking for a Toggl Track alternative? An honest guide (2026)

Credit first: Toggl Track set the bar for frictionless time tracking, and its public anti-surveillance stance is genuinely admirable. If you're here, it's probably about price, mobile depth, or wanting your data off the cloud.

Where Toggl stands in 2026

Per Toggl's pricing page: free for up to 5 users; Starter at $9/user/mo; Premium promotional pricing renews at $18/user/mo. Its automatic tracking (rule-based autotracker, timeline) is desktop-only — on mobile you're back to remembering to tap the timer. Toggl was acquired by Bending Spoons in 2025; pricing has so far changed less dramatically than at Harvest, but ownership is worth knowing when you plan years ahead.

Stay with Toggl if…

…you need cross-device cloud sync, the browser extension and integrations, Apple Watch support, or you track as a team. Those are real strengths Timeabit doesn't attempt.

Switch to Timeabit if…

…you're solo, your tracking happens on your phone (where Toggl's automation can't help you), you want invoicing without a per-seat subscription, and you like the idea that your hours physically stay on your device. Timeabit's whole wedge is the thing Toggl doesn't do on mobile: noticing the time you forgot and helping you reconstruct it.

Same respect for your privacy

No surveillance here either — we just went further.

Toggl promises not to spy on you in the cloud. Timeabit keeps its cloud minimal: one free sign-in, then everything is local-first and offline — your hours sync to your own account and nothing else is collected. Try it with a sample week.

Moving your data

Export your Toggl reports as CSV to keep your history. Then import it straight into Timeabit: Settings → Data → Import entries from CSV — Toggl exports are detected automatically, duplicates are skipped, and you can undo right after.
